Lab Manager



In this newly created position reporting to the Head of Operations, we are seeking a self-motivated, detail-oriented, and collaborative Lab Manager to work within both general labs and animal facilities. The successful candidate will coordinate laboratory operations, including maintenance of laboratory supplies, equipment, instruments, and service contracts; development of optimal, cost-effective solutions for lab reagents and equipment in consultation with scientific staff; and ensuring safe and efficient laboratory operations.


Maintain laboratory supplies, equipment, instruments, and service contracts

  • Support scientific staff with equipment and software training
  • Manage and oversee the maintenance and repair of laboratory equipment, including daily upkeep, routine quality control and troubleshooting, and scheduling of preventative maintenance
  • Work with contracted facilities technicians to complete repairs and modifications across lab and office spaces
  • Develop standard operating procedures for the start-up and shutdown of shared equipment
  • Lead for management of alarm systems, including restoration, resets, and routine checks
  • Think critically to resolve unique issues revolving around a shared work environment, equipment usage metrics and calendars, and help maintain an environment of collaboration and creativity

In consultation with scientific staff, develop optimal, cost-effective solutions for lab reagents and equipment

  • Manage shipping and receiving
  • Establish and maintain relationships with vendor representatives
  • Working closely with business and operations team to drive contracts to resolution and execution
  • Manage and oversee the inventory management control programs

Ensure safe and efficient laboratory operations

  • Lead EHS program
  • Ensure high level of PPE Compliance
  • Manage chemical inventories and work with EHS consultants to manage liquid and solid waste pickup and storage of chemical and biohazard waste
  • Routinely inspect lab safety equipment
  • Liaise with building facilities manager and safety consultant


  • Bachelor’s degree in a science related discipline
  • Minimum of 5 years of lab experience, including at least 2 years’ in lab operations or management (ideally within the biopharma industry)
  • Must have strong communications, organization and negotiation skills
  • Proven collaborative skills and experience in an extremely fast-paced environment is a plus
  • Must be a creative and proactive problem solver
  • Knowledge of regulations and national standards relating to the care and use of animals in research and education, issues pertaining to the care and use of animals in research and education, Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) responsibilities and procedures is a plus
  • American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) Certified Lab Animal Technician (LAT) is a plus
